    In this issue of the Journal of the Faculty of Sciences of the UNI (REVCIUNI), scientific and popular articles are presented that reflect the intense academic and scientific activity of teachers and students, both undergraduate and graduate.

    This is an effort made by the Faculty in order to keep alive the investigative spirit of its professors and students, and it is our commitment to continue along this path to contribute to the University and the country.

    We also encourage more teachers and students to commit to their contributions to enhance the quality and prestige of the Journal, as well as its continuity.

    En este año Internacional de la Química nuestra Escuela de Química está organizando diversas conferencias y una semana de Expoquímica dedicado a experiencias de laboratorio en Química . También hay que destacar los esfuerzos de la Escuela encaminados a la obtención de la acreditación académica, un paso cualitativo para sustentar la calidad educativa en la formación académica de los estudiantes de Química en nuestra Facultad. Estas iniciativas obligan la participación de profesores, alumnos, técnicos de laboratorio y empleados en general. Si hace 10 años la Escuela de química contaba solo con 2 Doctores y 1 Magister en la actualidad hay siete doctores, ocho Magister, además se han creado laboratorios de investigación  en Electroquímica, Fisicoquímica, Orgánica e Inorg´anica y sobre esta base se han formado grupos de investigación importantes. Como consecuencia, se ha producido una mayor presencia de publicaciones en la revista de la Facultad de Ciencias REVCIUNI y en la revista de la Sociedad Química del Perú. Muchos de los trabajos publicados se han realizado con el esfuerzo de los alumnos a través de los cursos de Proyecto de tesis. La especialidad de química  también es una fuente importante de recursos económicos en la Facultad mediante trabajos de análisis y servicios a la Industria y Empresas. Los alumnos también han formado grupos de estudio que cuenta con el apoyo de la Facultad. Aprovecho la oportunidad para invitar a los alumnos y profesores de la Facultad a una mayor participación en las actividades académicas que organiza la Facultad.

    Since 1995, the Research Institute of the Faculty of Sciences of the National University of Engineering has published 11 copies of REVCIUNI. Several of our teachers and students have collaborated with them with articles where they report their research or disseminate topics related to basic and applied sciences.

    The REVICUNI number that we now present has some formal changes. A new design on the covers with a greater variety of color, as well as the inscription of the volume and the number on the spine, for better identification. Regarding the subject, there have been no modifications, the journal hosts completed or ongoing research works, undergraduate and postgraduate theses, and specialized dissemination articles. This issue includes applied physics and mathematics topics.

    The main objective of the publication of the Journal of the Faculty of Sciences of the UNI is to disseminate the research carried out in our faculty. Such investigations are reflected in works related to the bachelor's thesis and master's thesis, as well as important results of scientific research of the professors of the faculty. The journal also includes popular science works.

    This issue is a sign of the effort to create the tradition of publishing research results and, in general, scientific studies of the UNI Faculty of Sciences.

    REVCIUNI is an incentive to produce and publish results on a generously broad scientific level.

    Here we want to invite the members of the Faculty of Sciences, and of the UNI community, to present their scientific works, to offer them to the knowledge and criticism of the country.

    Por segunda vez estamos realizando el Seminario Internacional de Matemática Aplicada y Optimización, en homenaje a Eugen Blum.

    Nuestro objetivo es perennizar este homenaje académico; así como aprovechar de este evento internacional para desarrollar estas áreas de la matemática, que desarrollan modelos de la ingeniería, la economía y de otras ciencias. 

    Cada vez estamos recibiendo mayor número de participantes; tanto conferencistas, como asistentes interesados en estos temas.

    Hemos tenido en ambos eventos, conferencitas destacados de varios países; entre ellos podemos resaltar a: W. Oetli, Joffre, A. Iusem, R. Cominetti, F. Flores, etc.

    Creemos que si continuamos de este modo, este evento será a no dudarlo importante en la región.
