Study of Colossal Magnetoresistance and Hall Effect in Manganite La0.8 Sr0.2 MnO3
Keywords:
Colossal magnetoresistance, Hall effect, manganitesAbstract
La1_xSrxMn03 manganites were prepared by a citrate method with controllable content of Sr according to inductively coupled plasma - atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES) and with perovskite structure according to x-ray diffraction (DRX) [9]. For the present work we have utilized x = O, 2. The sample was compacted and sintetized into a disc shape. Metallic electrodes were placed on it in order to measure electric resistance variations as a function of the temperature in the presence of an external magnetic field. The measuring range went from O to 1, 3 T for external magnetic field and from 87 to 330K for temperature. The experimental results showed a Colossal Magnetoresistance (CMR) value of 50% near 300 K. An increment in the critical temperature of approximately 20°C in the presence of a 1,3T magnetic field has been seen. The Hall effect measurements showed a good agreement with the model that proposes an additional contribution to the Classic Hall Effect, which consists of a carrier dispersion on account of their interaction with the magnetization M
