Teaching/Learning in the first design workshop

The following paper is an extract of the thesis’ research for the Master degree in Architecture-Theory, History and Critics, presented in March 2008**. The field of research is the first design workshop in architecture faculties, understanding this as a threshold, a sort of initiation ritual in the study of architecture. Therefore, several workshops were observed, in four different universities in Lima, chosen in terms of their variety and different teaching “types” that, combined, give each workshop its own characteristics. A review of the different identified approaches is presented, and how those are developed inside the studied workshops. Finally, the study includes the author’s thoughts about teaching architecture in the first design workshop.
