The urban crisis, the hygienist speech and the housing question in Lima during the 1900

Abstract

In between a new cycle of prosperity, worsening the conditions of public health and the persistence of the deplorable living conditions in Lima during the 1900, the first social mobilizations emerge with demands in which the discussion about social housing appeared as an urgent claim. The speech of a prominent 'hygienists' and urban reformers group, and also the different responses of the State and private developers offered different solutions to solve the huge housing crisis back then.
