This first issue marks the beginning of a series of publications from the Faculty of Sciences. Where there is neither the custom nor the need to write, the task of publishing a journal like this one is harder than it may seem.

The National University of Engineering itself, despite the potential contribution of its faculties, lacks a scientific-technological journal that appears more or less periodically. This is not only a pity, but is also a clear sign of our inability to publish articles of an acceptable level, not necessarily on specialized subjects.

On the other hand, taking into account how difficult it is to obtain research articles of international level, the journal of the Faculty of Sciences has several sections: the first is for research articles, including the summaries of some undergraduate and graduate works; the second is dedicated to articles of specialized dissemination; and the third, to graphic or scientific dissemination articles.

For the Faculty of Sciences, this journal is both a source of satisfaction and a cause for concern, created by the not unrealistic fear that this first issue will remain an isolated adventure without continuity. But it is a challenge that we are willing to face, despite the difficult economic conditions in which engineering teachers have to work.
