Abstract

Some people like to think that Newton´s Second Law reduces to F = m.a, where m is the mass of a particle-like-body, F is the resultant of the forces applied to that particle, and a is the acceleration acquired by that particle.

However, when students work in the laboratory to verify the validity of the SLN, they do not do so with a point body. On the other hand, in general, it does not make sense to refer to the acceleration of a non-point body either.
