Towards the formation of the architect´s professional field

Contribution of the society of architects of Peru, 1937-1962

Abstract

The interest of defining the professional field of the architect reveals itself like the core of the Society of Architect’s concern. Since its creation in 1937, the Society became the place where a group of initiatives were orientated towards the consolidation of the architecture as a profession in our society. Later on, interest on our cities problems was also shown. The project of regulation of the profession with its Official Register of Architects, The Advisory Board of Architects, the tariff of fees and the project for the creation of the School of Architects were among the most important issues that were discussed during these years. This paper presents the achievements and failures of the institution on these issues as well a its interest to achieve a better recognition inside our society for the architect.
