Abstract

Less than five years have passed since the earthquake occurred in 2007 in the City of Ica, which produced destruction in homes and buildings, thus many churches were declared uninhabitable. Since then, public and private organizations produced reports on the progress of the reconstruction, in terms of infraestructura but leaving aside the qualitative aspect of the architectural reconstruction, despite many of the destroyed buildings were historic monuments. This lack of information over the status of the monumental heritage, contributed the research: "Monumentality and mimesis in rebuilt temples of the City of Ica, after the earthquake of 2007", which purpose was to explain how the monumental form of the original temple. conditions the mimetic character of rebuilt temples.

The premise of this research is that the monumental form of the temple is all architectonic language with values of sacred and tradicional significance. The temples destroyed by the earthquake in the City of Ica, were distinguished because they had these values but lost them after the reconstruction. This conflict between principles and practice, evidence the critic point in the reconstruction of the temples, taking place the question why the reconstructed temples lost their monumental form?

The hypothesis for solving this question explains that it was ocurred due that the reconstruction did not consider the mimetic character in its planning. Mimetic understood as the representation of the reality, the existence, or the place in the architectonic work.
