Our institution, which has bcen training architects for a hundred years now, first opened in 1911. Its plans of study, reformulated subsequently in 1931 and 1946, point to the passage from teaching architecture as a special knowledge together with the enginecring sciences, to the consolidation of a discipline with an identity of its own. Furthermore, the subjects selected for the student to learn correspond, to a certain extent, to the needs of the time. It was necessary to make projects for the new buildings that our cities required, in their search for modernization, during the first two decades of the 20th century.
In this presentation, we seek to analyze the relationship between the main components of an architect's training during this first stage: construction, drawing, and the project. Also, the topics worked on in the projects; the-conditioning factors involved, and the results. Thus, we have taken the study plans, with the courses and number of hours per year, and the documents from the archives that present the topics worked on in the project courses of the different years, and in the final projects.
