Abstract

Urban logistics in the district of Callao was studied through its administrative, urban and operative dimensions. From the administrative point of view, the study focused on the formal aspect of the district's growth: the emission of building and operating licenses. These were obtained in the Provincial Municipality of Callao during the 2005-2010 period and are connected with the operation of establishments that make up the urban logistics platform. In the district's urban dimension, the study concentrated on the location of the Port and the Jorge Chavez International Airport in the district of Callao. Both edifices put pressure on land use, which can be seen through the changes in its use. The latter are more evident thanks to the absences of specific urban logistics plans. In the operative aspect, the district's 2 logistical centers and 29 logistics operators were observed. These are located along its main avenues. The study also centered on urban logistics in terms of roads, which includes the analysis of transport infrastructure, the network of traffic lights and the network of freight transport implemented by the Municipality. We can note that tensions in urban logistics in Callao are related to the presence of two megabuildings: the port and the airport. These two buildings use a road network that is already above capacity due to the variety of means of transportation that travel it. Among them, we can point out freight transport, interprovincial transport, private and public transport, and small vehicles. These make use of one lane, which is not segregated, and have an effect on how much rime freight transport takes. Thus, the optimal service demand of the users of the two megabuildings is not met.
